![]() In the cup, the Bergamot tones down a notch to a well-balanced, robust, malty brew that could satisfy even a coffee lover. It is noticeably fresh, not highly perfumed like most other offerings, for they use real Bergamot, not "natural flavorings," or "essences," and so it pays off in huge dividends to the afficionado. The moment you open a packet, the powerful, heady aroma of bergamot saturates the senses. Numi Aged Earl Grey Assam- Now we're talkin' tea! Hands down, this is my all around absolute favorite tea. Link to This Review 100 Aroma: 10/10 Flavor: 5/5 Value: 5/5 It's not bad, but the vivid and promising aroma left me bummed at how much less Earl-y the product tasted than it should have. I could taste the bergamot, but at a weaker level than just about every other Earl Grey I've tried. Either that, or the "aged Earl Grey" was so aged that good ol' Earl was on death's door by the time he flavored this one. ![]() It was as if most of the ester evaporated upon inhaling and vanished up the catacombs behind my sniffer, leaving precious little behind in the drink. Yet for as assertive as the base tea was, the Earl Grey portion dropped off dramatically between aroma and flavor. Since it's an Assam, I suppose that's no surprise I generally like Assams precisely because of their unpretentious boldness. Looks and taste? The base tea is very rich and flavorful, brewing up a dark cup quickly. Aroma? Strong, fruity, potent, almost mouth-watering. I'm having trouble rating this tea because it depends on what you're seeking. This was one of the atypical flavored teas I've had with a scent (both dry-bag and in-cup) noticeably bigger than the taste. If I specifically want tea bags, there are cheaper teas that are nearly as good. The tea is obviously high quality, but it's at a bad price point no matter what. Though they're similar, the base tea is definitely different than Numi's Breakfast Blend and I'd like to taste it on its own. The bergamot citrus complements the tea flavors, making for an orange and dark chocolate sensation. ![]() The bitterness and malt combine into strong cocoa notes and the astringency is mild. That said, the tea is extremely mellow for an Assam in a bag. Note that I'm saying that "subtle" is a positive thing, so if you like Earl Grey with a powerful citrus flavor, then this one might not be what you're looking for. The base tea is wonderful and the bergamot is subtle. This is one of the best Earl Greys I've had. Link to This Review 67 Aroma: 8/10 Flavor: 4/5 Value: 2/5ĭifflugia ( 170 reviews) on Mar. ![]()
